SummaryThis tool from C-Change, under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)'s direction, grew out of a March 2011 meeting of researchers with expert knowledge of gender scales to review what was being done in the creation and use of such scales. Meeting participants identified scales that have been developed to measure adherence to gender norms and reviewed the use of such scales to measure the success of interventions in changing gender norms. An important outcome of the meeting was the identification of the need for an online compendium of gender scales that could be easily accessed by practitioners who may be interested in using gender scales to assess gender-related attitudes and beliefs and to evaluate health interventions that incorporate gender approaches. The compendium is not intended to be exhaustive of all scales, and C-Change will be reviewing additional scales as they are identified for inclusion in the compendium.
